P3•EDU today released the results of a 2024 survey finding university leaders continue to see public-private partnerships growing on their campuses. The nationwide survey, conducted by The Chronicle of Higher Education and P3•EDU, polled 376 university leaders and found the following:
- 74% of university leaders see public-private partnerships growing at their institutions (compared to 75% in 2023).
- The leading areas of administrative public-private partnerships are student housing, research, development, IP commercialization, other real estate development, and energy/sustainability solutions.
- The top academic partnership areas are workforce development/employee training, health, telehealth, or mental health services, artificial intelligence, and online program expansion.
- More than 70% said they expect to partner with the private sector around artificial intelligence solutions, with both positive and negative impacts noted.
- The top reasons to explore partnerships are unique competencies, speed of execution, and availability of capital.
- Responses specific to campus partnership administration, online partnerships, and revenue-share vs. fee-for-service partnerships were also addressed in the survey.

The survey was conducted ahead of the national P3•EDU Conference, to be held October 7-9 in Denver. The conference brings together preeminent leaders from universities and business to network and share best practices around public-private partnerships in higher education.
