THREE-QUARTERS OF UNIVERSITIES SEE GROWTH OF PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS ON CAMPUS
A new national survey released by education conference P3•EDU and The Chronicle of Higher Education shows that higher ed leaders continue to see strong interest in public-private partnerships on campus.
P3•EDU, an event hosted by University of Colorado Denver, today released the results of a new survey, finding that 75% of university leaders see public-private partnerships growing on their campuses. The nationwide survey, conducted by P3•EDU and The Chronicle of Higher Education, polled 385 university leaders and found the following:
- Seventy-five percent see public-private partnerships growing on their campuses, with just 2% seeing partnerships declining.
- The leading areas of administrative public-private partnerships are energy/sustainability solutions, student housing, IP commercialization, and other real estate development.
- The top academic partnership areas are workforce development/employee training; health, telehealth, or mental health services; skills training/bootcamps; data analytics/predictive analytics; and online program expansion.
- Almost two-thirds of campuses said they expect to partner with the private sector around artificial intelligence solutions.
- The leading reasons to explore partnerships are unique competencies, speed of execution, and availability of capital.
- Concerns about partnerships include loss of control and costs.
- New technologies and government regulations were stated as impacting leaders’ view of public-private partnerships in higher education.
