Holtzbrinck Digital has invested in Patience - the e-learning platform
Holtzbrinck Digital, the Internet Holding of the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group, have invested in the online learning platform Patience (www.patience.io), and thus expanding their activities in the eLearning segment. Holtzbrinck Digital is Patience’s lead investor, alongside RI Digital Ventures – both joined by Business Angels in this round of funding, who had already been a part of the financial backing.
Patience is a Berlin-based learning technology provider and was founded by Nikolaus Thomale (CEO), Jan Zimmek (CTO), Moritz Hunsdiek (COO) and Daniel Berndt (Chief Data Scientist) with the mission of enabling virtually anybody to teach online. The customizable platform makes it possible for educators around the world to easily build and manage their own online learning applications and successfully market their courses. Patience’s solutions are deployed for educators of all kind: tutors, training companies, publishers, schools, universities and non-profit organizations.
"Patience is a true innovation and offers training providers of all sizes a modern technology, and the ability to offer their online courses globally. Such platform solutions for educational providers and their customers alike will play an increasingly important role in the mediation of educational opportunities, especially in an increasingly globalized world.“ says Markus Schunk, CEO of Holtzbrinck Digital. He adds: “By investing in Patience, we are expanding our activities in the strategically important business of e-learning. The technological expertise also offers interesting starting points for our education and language programs with Spotlight and the ZEIT.”
Nikolaus Thomale, founder and CEO of Patience.io: "We are delighted to work with Holtzbrinck Digital and RI Digital Ventures who not only contribute financially but also support us with their strong network and similar strategic focus. Their experience and expertise will help us take Patience to the next level, and to new markets. We’re also thrilled to be Holtzbrincks first earlystage investment in e-learning, this is a great endorsement of our team and our vision, and we are incredibly excited about the future.”
The current funding will be used to expand the team and the internationalization of Patience’s services. “Furthermore, we will continue working on our goal to make it as easy as possible for people and institutions to share their knowledge online, and thus participate in the continued growth of the eLearning industry” Thomale adds.
