The "Mobility in Higher Education" CIO survey was conducted by the Education Dive editorial staff and is underwritten by Sprint Higher Education Solutions.
There's no question that universities nationwide are moving to integrate mobile devices—but which products are higher ed institutions selecting? To find out, we asked 50 university CIOs which smartphones and tablets their respective schools use as part of Education Dive's "Mobility in Higher Education" 2013 survey.
Clearly, the big winner was Apple, with a majority of CIOs surveyed indicating that both iPads and iPhones were chosen for their schools' technology plans. It is worth noting that the iPhone is less popular than the iPad, which may be a reflection of the iPad's unique applicability to the education space. Apple has become a leader in ed tech, as evidenced by their major shares of the education tablet and smartphone markets. Take a look:
RESULTS:
iPhone — 60%
Android Phones — 38%
Blackberry — 14%
iPad — 72%
Android Tablets — 28%
None — 20%
Other — 20%
