This week, Texas chose ETS over Pearson to handle the majority of its state testing after a 15-year relationship with the British ed giant. Some observers see the move lessening Pearson's testing influence and sales due to the size of the state's education market, but Pearson will still likely negotiate a $60 million deal for an English language learners exam.
Speaking of English exams, UK-based FutureLearn launched what is said to be the biggest MOOC yet, a course focused on IELTS preparation that has registered 382,000 students from 153 countries.
Meanwhile, the Harvard Graduate School of Education and nonprofit Expeditionary Learning launched the Center for Student Work, which is being billed as the largest library of exceptional K-12 student work. Additionally, Navient, a company formerly contracted by the U.S. Department of Education to service student loans, may be cleared of wrongdoing in it alleged cheating of military students.
