Dive Insight:
Miller served his entire career in politics, before the shift to Cengage Learning. His first campaign was a defeat in 1969 and, five years later, with law degree in hand, Miller was elected to the House of Representatives for California’s 7th Congressional District. His background, though in politics, has included significant exposure to education issues. Miller is a past chairman of the Committee on Children, Youth, and Families as well as the Committee on Education and the Workforce. It is not uncommon for U.S. senators and representatives to follow up their time in Congress with consulting work for companies interested in their policy contacts and expertise.
