- According to a new survey of high school and college students conducted by Chegg, women are more concerned about campus violence than men, with 41% of the female respondents ranking non-lethal assaults, including sexual assault, as a top concern on campus — compared to 25% of the male respondents.
- Property crimes were a top concern for 66% of the male students in the survey, compared to 48% for the female students.
- Students were concerned about school shootings regardless of gender, with 56% reporting they worry about them "at least a little" and nearly 1 in 10 saying they worry about them a lot.
Dive Insight:
The Chegg survey received 1,765 responses from high school and college students between June 12 and June 15. Other findings included 56 percent of all students worrying about school shootings on some level, including 9 percent who worry “a lot” about school shootings. Forty-five percent of female students felt their school does not do enough to prevent gun violence, compared to 36 percent of the males. Regarding safety, 67 percent of all students reported feeling safe on or near their campus.
